Change your mind

...and your way of living.

I’m Tim Johnson, a licensed marriage and family therapist with a private practice in Santa Rosa, California.

I offer individual psychotherapy that addresses both immediate symptoms and the deeper issues that often lurk behind them.

We like it when we can handle our problems all on our own, but sometimes even the strongest of us can use a helping hand.

You may benefit from therapy if:

  • Worrying or hopelessness are starting to interfere with your everyday life. It feels hard to get through a day without disruptive pangs of fear or "overthinking" sending you spinning. It’s difficult to find something you enjoy doing or even the energy to do very much at all.

  • You struggle to trust your own judgment, passions, and instincts — or even to know what they are. You're exhausted and demoralized from being alienated from yourself. Other people want to give you lots of advice and opinions, which only makes things more frustrating and confusing.

  • Relationships — romantic or otherwise — never seem to go right for you. You find yourself repeating the same kinds of relationships with the same kinds of people that fail for the same kinds of reasons. Or, even though you are in a relationship, you feel lonely and unseen. Maybe you struggle with meeting new people and making any relationship stick for very long.

  • Time is bringing new challenges and (unwanted) changes. You are surprised to find yourself at an age that is considered “older." You feel like the self you’ve always been, yet your world is becoming unfamiliar and the future looks daunting. Or perhaps you have recently experienced a major loss or health diagnosis and are not sure how to move forward. Unforeseen changes, such as needing to provide care to a compromised parent or spouse, may be radically altering your life in ways that you didn't ask for or want.

Effective therapy can help you to:

  • Untangle anxiety into greater confidence and clarity.

  • Rediscover the joy and inspiration that energizes you into feeling and doing your best.

  • Disrupt negative relationship patterns that leave you lonely and frustrated.

  • Define — or redefine — the terms of your life to suit your circumstances and meet your needs.

  • Maximize your strengths and find new ones you didn’t know you possessed.
